TON Pay Alternative: When You Need More Than Telegram
TON Pay is live, and if you run a Telegram Mini App it is worth using. It takes TON and USDT inside Telegram, settles in about a second, and the network fee is a fraction of a cent. For a store that lives entirely inside Telegram with an audience already holding TON, that native checkout is hard to beat.
So let’s be honest about where the line is. TON Pay is TON and USDT, on TON, inside Telegram. That is its strength and also its edge. The moment your business steps outside any one of those three boundaries, you need something wider. That is the job MutoPay does.
Where TON Pay fits, and where it stops
TON Pay wins on native Telegram UX. No redirect, no QR dance, the wallet is already in the app. If that describes your entire storefront, this post is not trying to talk you out of it.
Here is what it does not cover:
- A customer paying in a non-TON token. If your buyer holds USDC on Base or USDT on Tron, TON Pay asks them to bridge into TON first. Most won’t. That is a lost sale, not a smaller one.
- Selling anywhere but Telegram. A website, a WooCommerce store, a headless checkout over your own API. TON Pay covers one surface.
- Settling outside the TON ecosystem. Your money stays on TON and moves through TON’s rails and off-ramps.
None of those are flaws. They are the scope TON Pay chose. But if your business crosses any of those lines, that scope becomes your ceiling.
What MutoPay does differently
MutoPay is a non-custodial gateway built for the merchant who is bigger than one chain and one app. The customer pays any token, you receive the stablecoin you chose, in your own wallet, usually in under a minute, at a flat 0.5%.
| TON Pay | MutoPay | |
|---|---|---|
| Tokens in | TON, USDT-on-TON | Any token, 10 chains |
| Chains | TON only | Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Avalanche, BNB, TON, Solana, Tron |
| Surfaces | Telegram Mini Apps | Hosted checkout, payment links, WooCommerce, REST API, TonConnect |
| Settlement | Stays in TON ecosystem | Your chosen stablecoin (USDC/USDT), your own wallet |
| Custody | Ecosystem rails | Non-custodial, funds never touch us |
| Fee | Network fee | 0.5% flat |
The row that matters most is the first one. A gateway that only accepts what the customer already holds on one chain is a gateway that turns away everyone else. MutoPay routes a payment from any of those 10 chains and settles it as one stablecoin, so the customer’s chain is never your problem.
You do not have to leave TON to do this
This is the part people miss. MutoPay is not “instead of TON.” It has a native TonConnect surface, so you keep the exact in-Telegram checkout your TON buyers expect: one tap, Tonkeeper or Wallet-in-Telegram opens, they approve, done. See Accept TON payments for how that flow looks.
The difference is what happens for the customer who is not on TON. On MutoPay they pick USDC on Base, or USDT on Tron, or ETH, and the routing bridges into your settlement token in the background. You still receive one stablecoin in your wallet. Same merchant, wider net.
Who should switch, and when
Three moments are worth acting on:
- You are outgrowing Telegram-only. You started as a Mini App and now you also have a website or a WooCommerce store. One gateway across every surface beats stitching TON Pay to a second processor. See Accept crypto on WooCommerce.
- Your customers are global. In markets where USDT-on-Tron is the default dollar rail, forcing a bridge to TON costs you conversions. Accept Tron USDT payments covers that rail directly.
- You want to hold your own keys. Non-custodial settlement to your wallet, no processor float, no counterparty to trust.
If none of those apply and you are a single Mini App with an all-TON crowd, stay on TON Pay. That is the honest call.
Setup takes about ten minutes
- Create a merchant account at mutopay.com/dashboard/register.
- Pick your settlement token and chain in Settings → Settlement. For a Telegram-first store,
TON+USDTkeeps you native. For a multi-chain store, pick USDC on Base or any chain you prefer. - Paste the wallet you want paid into. MutoPay validates the address on save.
- Create a payment link from the dashboard or the API:
curl -X POST https://mutopay.com/api/payments \ -H "Authorization: Bearer sk_live_..." \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{ "amount": 25, "currency": "USD" }' - Send the returned
payment_url. Telegram buyers see the TonConnect button first, everyone else picks their token.
FAQ
Is MutoPay a replacement for TON Pay? Not for a pure Telegram Mini App with an all-TON audience. TON Pay’s native checkout is hard to beat there. MutoPay is for when you also sell outside Telegram, or your customers pay in tokens other than TON and USDT-on-TON.
Can MutoPay still take TON payments inside Telegram? Yes. MutoPay has a native TonConnect surface. One tap opens Tonkeeper or Wallet-in-Telegram, the buyer approves, and you settle in TON or USDT-on-TON.
What tokens and chains does MutoPay accept that TON Pay does not? Any token across 10 chains: Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Avalanche, BNB, TON, Solana, and Tron. A customer paying USDC on Base or USDT on Tron checks out without bridging to TON first.
Where do the funds land? In the wallet you control. MutoPay is non-custodial, funds never touch us. You pick USDC or USDT and every payment settles straight to your address.
What does MutoPay cost? A flat 0.5% per transaction. No monthly fee, no withdrawal fee, no spread on the conversion.
Which one should a Telegram store use? If your whole store lives in a Mini App and your buyers hold TON, TON Pay is the natural fit. If you sell across surfaces, or your customers hold non-TON tokens, use MutoPay so you don’t lose those sales.
